  • Child and Youth Worker
    The Neighbourhood Group is currently seeking an experienced Child and Youth Worker for a position in our after-school programs. 

    MAJOR DUTIES:
    • Facilitate program for children and youth ages 5-18.
    • Plan and implement stimulating, creative, age-specific, social, educational and recreational activities based on the needs of participants in each individual program.
    • Provide a stimulating and creative program based on children and youth’s needs, and with sensitivity to the diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds.
    • Work with the participants as a group while remaining aware of each individual’s needs.
    • Form a positive relationship with children and youth and be a role model while demonstrating strong leadership skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work in harmony with team members and be able to work independently.
    • Ensure the safety and supervision of program participants during program activities on and off site.
    • May supervise volunteers at times.
    • Facilitate full day programming on school P.A Days *are there other times that trigger full days? (March break, summer, etc.)

  • Corner Drop-In Relief
    The Corner Drop-in is a busy, dynamic program that serves ~ 200 participants each day. We provide daytime shelter, nutritious hot food, primary health care services from on-site nurses, doctors and psychiatrists, information and help finding affordable housing, mental health support, voluntary financial trusteeship, substance use counselling, workshops and activities. Relief staff will work as a member of the Drop-In team to provide an enriched drop-in setting for homeless and socially isolated adults. Working alongside staff, volunteers and peer workers, relief staff will ensure a safe and welcoming environment. This position works on an on-call, as-needed basis to replace door and/or floor staff in drop in. Relief staff will help maintain order and safety, participate in crisis intervention, assist drop-in members with accessing services, and make referrals.

  • Custodian - Housing - Contract
    The position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining TNG owned sites. Duties include maintenance and repairs of interiors, supply acquisition, garbage removal and upkeep of exterior grounds and walkways as assigned. Assist with maintenance of building equipment and machinery and respond to emergencies as necessary or required. The position will report to the Senior Housing Manager, and is part of CUPE Local 7797. Position will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.   • E-Mediators, E-Violence Interruption Before Escalation (E-VIBE) - Contract - Part-Time(2 Positions)
    Social media is a key area of focus in the effort to interrupt violence as online platforms are increasingly becoming spaces where youth can both cause and experience harm. Peer pressure, bullying and threats are exchanged via social media and can lead to real life violent behavior. TO Wards Peace will leverage social media through the E-VIBE program. It will be used to identify emerging trends, to disseminate targeted violence prevention content and where appropriate, monitor and interrupt potential incidents of violence.

    MAJOR DUTIES:
    • Completion of receiving the mandatory EVIBE E-Mediator training
    • De-escalation of online violence and retaliatory actions
    • Identification of online emotional vulnerability and distress
    • Identification of online retaliatory posturing or intimidation including bullying
    • Tracking emerging trends (i.e., language, emojis, tactics with the intent of instigating violence, etc.)
    • Tracking and monitoring established and newly emerging alliances and/or hostility between groups/neighbourhoods.
    • Identifying potentially problematic posts, videos, live streams, etc. that require immediate attention or removal as to prevent further harm to community
    • Participate in group sessions and provide insights on the ongoing development of the program
    • Coordinate with online or social media intervention models where appropriate
    • Create summaries
    • Deliver quarterly insights report.
    • Facilitate workshops on online violence to communities when requested and complete workshop feedback surveys.

  • Follow Up Worker - Stabilization & Connection Centre
    As a member of the Urban Health and Homelessness Services Department, this position provides direct support to individuals discharged from Toronto’s first Stabilization & Connection Centre, serving intoxicated vulnerable adults diverted from the community by Emergency Services/paramedics.     The HR Generalist reports to the Senior Manager HR and provides support to general department functions.   • Mobile Overdose Prevention Worker - Part-Time - Contract (2 Positions)
    Urban Health and Homelessness Services of The Neighbourhood Group (TNG) is looking for experienced individuals with lived and living experience of drug use for our Mobile Overdose Prevention Project. The Mobile OD Prevention Workers will engage with people in our community who are experiencing homelessness, particularly those who are at risk for overdose, to assess their needs and connect them to services, including housing, ID services, income supports, etc. Working as part of the UHHS team, and with community partners, the Mobile OD Prevention Workers will build trust with people in our community, respond to overdoses, ensure basic needs are met, and refer them to further supports.

  • Mobile Shelter Support Program Case Manager
    As a member of the MSSP program, this position provides direct supportive case management to adults living in different shelters, respites, encampments, and warming centers around the GTA. This support will serve clients with a complete range of complex issues, including health, financial, housing, legal, and life skills issues. Working from a harm reduction, trauma-informed perspective, case managers provide extensive, direct one-to-one support, on-site visits and telephone contact to assist participants in identifying and achieving self-determined goals. Our MSS program offers a distinctive combination of mobile services, peer support, harm reduction, supportive case management, and personal support work to numerous shelters, respites, warming centers, and encampments throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As an MSSP Lived Experience- PSW, you will play a pivotal role in supporting personal care, activities of daily living, homemaking, escorts, walks and pet care. Leveraging your own personal experience with homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use, you will serve as a guiding force, assisting, inspiring, and mentoring both clients and fellow team members on their journeys toward well-being. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach, you will empower individuals to navigate and access services, de-escalate challenging situations, share valuable resources and information, build trust and rapport, facilitate communication with clients and advocate on behalf of clients when necessary. The ideal candidate for this position will embody the philosophies of our department and peer program, adhering diligently to all policies, procedures, and requirements.     This position provides services to youth who have come into contact with the youth criminal justice system, providing intake, support, and the implementation of appropriate sanctions and measures, and the fulfilment of legislated reporting requirements. The worker will facilitate court sanctioned or mandated workshops, providing advocacy and/or court supports to youth/parents and supporting wider violence prevention initiatives. They will work within a dynamic team of youth justice workers to decrease violent crime among youth and support those youth at most risk of violence. The position delivers programs internally and within community-based settings that value youth leadership, youth empowerment and self-determined care and development.
