  • Community Mediation Worker - Contract
    Our Community Mediation Services is a free, confidential and voluntary community mediation service that supports individuals, groups and communities during conflict and provides a collaborative approach to conflict resolution. Our service provides volunteer mediators who facilitate discussions between parties, assisting them to reach a mutually agreeable solution. The Case Worker supports the operations of our community mediation and restorative justice services, in collaboration with the Team Lead, volunteer mediators, and student and interns. This role will work one day a week in a Scarborough location and a late afternoon/early evening shift to meet the program’s needs.

  • Corner Drop-In Relief
    The Corner Drop-in is a busy, dynamic program that serves ~ 200 participants each day. We provide daytime shelter, nutritious hot food, primary health care services from on-site nurses, doctors and psychiatrists, information and help finding affordable housing, mental health support, voluntary financial trusteeship, substance use counselling, workshops and activities. Relief staff will work as a member of the Drop-In team to provide an enriched drop-in setting for homeless and socially isolated adults. Working alongside staff, volunteers and peer workers, relief staff will ensure a safe and welcoming environment. This position works on an on-call, as-needed basis to replace door and/or floor staff in drop in. Relief staff will help maintain order and safety, participate in crisis intervention, assist drop-in members with accessing services, and make referrals.

    The Corner Drop-in is a busy, dynamic program that serves over 200 participants each day. We provide daytime shelter, nutritious hot food, primary health care services from on-site nurses, doctors and psychiatrists, information and help finding affordable housing, mental health support, voluntary financial trusteeship, substance use counselling, workshops and activities. The Part-time Doorperson works as a member of the Drop-In team to provide an enriched drop-in setting for homeless and socially isolated adults, welcomes visitors into the drop-in and Trustee program, and ensures that areas around the property are clean, safe and free of loitering. The Doorperson will staff the front door during the hours the Drop-in and Trustee programs are open and monitor the building activity.

  • Emergency Department - Peer Support Worker - Full and Part-Time - Contract
    The Neighborhood Group works collaboratively with University Heath Network (UHN) to provide support for people experiencing homelessness, substance use and/or mental health issues through knowledge gained by recent lived/living experience related to visiting hospital Emergency Departments for similar reasons. This program is offered at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. The Emergency Department Peer Support Workers will work with a team of medical professionals and social workers to assist in communicating with clients, helping clients navigate services, de-escalating conflict, building rapport, and helping to establish care and discharge plans for patients. This position will be under the direction of the Supervisor, Emergency Department and Stabilization Site. Emergency Department Peer Support Workers work at multiple sites and work on weekends and holidays may be required.

  • Mobile Shelter Support Program Case Manager
    As a member of the UHHS department, this position provides direct case management supports to adults living in COVID-19 shelter recovery/isolation hotels as well as clients living in different shelter and respites around the GTA. This support will serve clients with a complete range of complex issues, including health, financial, housing, legal and life skills issues. Working from a harm reduction, trauma-informed perspective, case managers provide extensive, direct one-to-one support, on-site visits and telephone contact to assist participants in identifying and achieving self-determined goals. Working closely with the client and external service providers involved, the Case Manager liaises with and coordinates access to services including substance use and mental health supports, landlords, health care providers, legal institutions, income supports, housing providers and other community services.

  • Mobile Shelter Support Program Shift Lead - Contract
    As an MSSP Shift Lead, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating day-to-day shift activities and operations. Leveraging your own personal experience with homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use, you will serve as a guiding force, assisting, inspiring, and mentoring both clients and fellow team members on their journeys toward well-being. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach, you will empower individuals to navigate and access services, de-escalate challenging situations, share valuable resources and information, build trust and rapport, facilitate communication with clients, offer social and recreational support, organize and lead client-focused programs as needed, and advocate on behalf of clients when necessary. The MSSP Shift Lead will also accompany clients to appointments. Furthermore, the MSSP Shift Lead will undertake responsibilities such as welcoming and training new team members and collaborating with other teams, including the Supervisor(s), MSSP and the Senior Manager of Mobile Community Health Services. Effective communication between TNG and site operators is crucial to ensure that the needs of our clients are met efficiently. Additionally, you will actively contribute to overdose prevention and response, safety planning, and the enhancement of harm reduction practices through various strategies and advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate for this position will embody the philosophies of our Agency and Peer Program, adhering diligently to all policies, procedures, and requirements. Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Mobile Shelter Support Program you will be an integral part of our team. Please be aware that the MSSP Shift Lead will work across various sites, including COVID isolation sites, shelters, respites, encampments, and all warming centers. Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts is required.

    The position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Agency sites. Duties include maintenance and repairs of interiors, supply acquisition, garbage removal and upkeep of exterior grounds and walkways as assigned. Maintain building equipment and machinery and respond to emergencies as necessary or required. This position reports to the Property Manager and is part of CUPE LOCAL 7797. Scheduled hours of work are 35 hours per week with the requirement to be On Call evenings, statutory holidays and weekends as needed between the hours of 3:30 pm-7:30 am. This position will work out of 12 Elm Grove Ave and 2802 Danforth Ave with the requirement to travel to other TNGCS sites as needed.

    The Relief Overdose Prevention Worker provides coverage for the Kensington Market Overdose Prevention Site (KMOPS) and the Mobile Overdose Prevention Program within The Neighbourhood Group’s Urban Health & Homelessness Services team. This role supports people who use drugs, many experiencing homelessness or at high risk of overdose, by providing overdose prevention and response, provide information and connection to supplies, crisis intervention, and referrals to health, housing, and income supports.   • The Next Chapter- Relief Peer Support Worker - Contract
    The Next Chapter Peer Support Workers contribute their lived experience to the multi-disciplinary care teams.   • Youth Justice Worker (4 Positions)
    This position provides services to youth who have come into contact with the youth criminal justice system, providing intake, support, and the implementation of appropriate sanctions and measures, and the fulfilment of legislated reporting requirements. The worker will facilitate court sanctioned or mandated workshops, providing advocacy and/or court supports to youth/parents and supporting wider violence prevention initiatives. They will work within a dynamic team of youth justice workers to decrease violent crime among youth and support those youth at most risk of violence.
